Three things, and only for the obvious reasons.

The contact form. If you write to me, I receive your name, email, and message so I can review and respond. Contact-form submissions are never added to the newsletter.

The newsletter. If you subscribe to The Production Gap, the newsletter service receives your email address and the information needed to confirm, deliver, and manage the subscription. You can unsubscribe from any issue.

Analytics. When analytics is on, Google Analytics records how the site is used: which pages you view, roughly where you are (country and region derived from your IP, never a precise location), and what device and browser you use. It tells me which parts of the site are useful. No ads, no sale of your data, and no following you around the web. Cloudflare also provides cookie-free aggregate traffic and performance information.

The only optional analytics cookies on this site are associated with Google Analytics.

In the EU, EEA, UK, and other regions where consent is required, Google Analytics does not run until you say yes. Decline and no analytics cookies are set by this site.

Everywhere else, Google Analytics may be on by default, but you can turn it off at any time using Manage cookies in the footer of any page.

Google Analytics, provided by Google LLC: usage analytics when enabled.

Formspree: delivers contact-form messages.

Buttondown: manages newsletter subscriptions and delivery.

Cloudflare: hosts and serves the site and provides cookie-free aggregate traffic and performance information.

• Turn Google Analytics on or off through Manage cookies.
• Unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any issue.
• Ask what contact or subscription information is held, or ask for deletion, through the Contact page.
